I think this decision will greatly improve the nations armed forces. Women who meet the qualifications to hold certain positions should not be denied the opportunity simply because of gender. Women can now contribute both physically and intellectually in ways they could not previously. Women also tend to think differently than men so this could help develop new strategies and technology. If a man is more qualified for a position he should hold it but if a woman is, she should. This will allow for greater potential of the United States' armed forces. The goal is to outwit and outmaneuver other counties in times of conflict. This decision will allow the nation to had a greater opportunity to fulfill these goals.
I agree with Erin that integrating all forces of the United States is a positive action. It joys me to know a woman can be a navy seal, and not just on October 31st for a costume party. The comment about women and men being physically different is one hundred percent correct. A women is usually more petite than a male and during a mission that can be a positive thing. Not only physically can woman keep up with men but mentally they have them beat; it is scientifically proven that women mature faster than men. Yes physical traits are important but a person doesn’t just need the body to join the american forces but the mindset. The best universities in the Unites States are arguably those meant for the forces like Army and Navy, and they only take the top students.
I agree with Erin too. Last year I did a research paper on basic women's rights and I wanted to use an example that I found frustrating. A cop who had all the qualifications to be a detective took the test, I think around 7 times and was denied every time. She later looked into those who got it and realized that they were all men AND were less qualified then she was. The only reason she didn't get the position was because she was a female. She later sued and got a large settlement. This not only caused the department to lose a lot of it's money that would've been used to help itself in the future, it also caused unnecessary drama and discrimination against women with no valid reason. Women have actually shown that when they are given a leadership role, businesses, companies etc are proven to better then when they weren't there. Giving qualified women any position shouldn't be this big ordeal and should be respected by those involved or not.
I think that this is a great step toward the future of women’s roles in the US. I agree that women can contribute to the armed forces in different ways than men, so the allowance of women to have these roles will be beneficial. Biologically, the belief that women are the “weaker sex” is true, because men have stronger builds than women do. However, that doesn’t mean that women can’t be strong or that they are unsuited for the military. Sure, there are many women who wouldn’t be suited for the military, but there are also many men who wouldn’t be suited for it either. It can be a hard environment for women, especially those roles were previously only open to men, but if a woman can handle it then there should be nothing to stop her from serving her country.
I believe this is truly a great step forward for the equality of all. Ever since the women’s rights movement women have fought to have an equal role in society. Women just want to be treated the same as a man. I think this is truly amazing that women will not be able to hold positions in the armed forces. They criteria to be in the armed forces is already rigorous, and if any should be able to meet that they should be able to serve no matter what their gender is. I know there is concern that women won’t be able to handle the pressure and brutality of the army but I think the only one to determine that is the woman herself.
