  1. As the article argues, neither the Church nor the pro-life movement are to blame for this shooting. Dear's motives are still vague and unclear. Even if he had targeted the pro-abortionists, the pro-life movement as a whole is not responsible for the shooting. The decisions and actions of one person in a group do not accurately represent the beliefs and behavior of the majority. This man alone is responsible for the tragedy that occurred. His past reveals that he clearly had issues before this, as he was arrested, divorced, and lived in a very secluded and hermit-like manner. His reasons for shooting may have stemmed from the pro-life idea, but the movement itself is in no way responsible for his actions. Therefore, it should not have to apologize for this event.

  2. I whole-heartedly agree with this article that Christians and pro-life supporters do not have to apologize for Dear’s actions. One random action does not define an entire movement, and Dear has not given any connections to the pro-life cause, but rather, Planned Parenthood has seized this opportunity to once again bad mouth the pro-life cause. After visiting the Islamic Center today with my World Religions class, I thought that it was very interesting that the author of this article compared pro-lifers to faithful Muslims. I would agree that both are unfairly lumped into a group that includes extremists and radicals that do not accurately represent the majority. I hope that Americans stay informed and realize that Planned Parenthood commits atrocities each day, and that they recognize the thousands of lives that had ended at the hands of abortionists.

  3. I agree with the people who have commented on this blog before me. The pro-life and Christian community are not to blamed for this unfortunate incident. Just because this man could have been part of the pro life movement, it is not the whole community’s wrong doing. This one man alone should be held responsible and should not reflect the behavior or beliefs of the pro life movement. Although the details are very vague, it seemed that Dear had ulterior motives and that he attacked the Planned Parenthood for his own selfish reasons. This situation should not reflect badly on the pro life movement because of one man’s violent actions.

  4. Like Elizabeth, I don't think that pro life supporters do not have to apologize for Dear's actions. One thing that occurred does not change the ideals on the movement. Dear's in no way shape or form is connected to pro-life. They are not to blame for the shooting. Although it is unknown what Dears motives were, this shooting again does not represent the movement as a whole. This man is obviously ill and was ill before this event occurred. This man is solely to blame. That is why i think that those who take part in the movement should not have to apologize for an individuals actions.

  5. Like many incidents in America, this shooter can be put into many groups. Just because he is a supporter of pro-life does not make all the other pro-life supporters guilty for his crime. This man has been proven to be an insane man already. It is clear that he has had problems and that he needs some kind of help, but under no circumstance should the pro-life movement need to apologize for his wrong doing. As an officer of life club, I know that we do not condone unpeacefulness to make people follow what we believe. This man took his own toll on things, doing something very awful, but it makes no sense to have all pro-life movement apologize. I do believe that Dear should need to apologize.

  6. I agree with all the people who wrote before me, the pro life movement should not have to apologize for this mans actions. Pro life supporters do not condone murder, they do not approve of violent ways to get the message across. If people can't tell in the name, they are pro life, they are working to provide a world where the murder of innocents is eliminated. This man has been proved to have some mental issues, though unsure of what they are, labeling him a pro life activist simply because he shot at a planned parenthood facility is simply an act of the media trying to convince people that pro lifers are crazier than we appear. Taking this into another example, if there is a shooting at the school, do we assume that the shooter is fully against the education and system and therefore anyone else who is against the education system would want to go shoot up schools? No this idea would be absurd. It is not right to assume that all pro life supporters are violent minded because of one mans attack who may or may not have even been pro life, and who was most definitely mentally disabled.

  7. I agree with everyone, groups shouldn't be blamed or ddiscrimated for the actions of one person. One person should not label how the group is as a whole. This stems back to hundreds of years ago. Racism, for example. Yes there are many types, but specifically let's talk about black people. Yes, some black people have done some not so good things, right? But that's not because they're black. People use that as an excuse to be racist to them so that they think they have a justifiable reason to discriminate against them. white people, people in general have done some pretty horrible things, yet, we don't label their whole group as bad, sometimes we do, but not all the time. So, there shouldn't be blame on that one group for one person's actions.

  8. What happened at the Planned Parenthood was obviously the actions of a single unstable person. As many of the others said, Dear had made many offenses in the past that reflected on him as mentally unstable. Whatever the reason he shot up the building, the pro life movement cannot be blamed for it. Especially now, it is a big problem that people are blaming entire groups for the actions of individuals. Unless similar violence is taught in the group, they cannot be blamed for the actions of one person. After reading the article, it seems like the abortion movement was being put under pressure and as soon as the shooting happened, they were quick to put the spotlight on the pro life movement instead, even though they should not actually be blamed for it.

  9. The prolife community is not to blame for the actions of a madman. Just because one man decided to shoot up a building does not reflect on an entire movement. Dear had a problem with Planned Parenthood as a whole. He did not like the morals and ideals of it. But it was not just a prolife reason. His motives are not clear. This is all just speculation that is being used as propaganda against the prolife movement. The prolife movement should not have to apologize for this event. The prolife moment never claimed to support this and in fact it was condemned.
