  1. I believe that Albert Einstein's prediction had come true. Our generation is known as the "generation of technology." People communicate through social media and text messages, rather than over a face-to-face conversation or phone call. Kids grow up attached to an iPad and would rather spend time watching TV than playing outside. Technology is taking over society. Albert Einstein saw this inevitable future coming, because technology is continually advancing. People must realize how much society is impacting life, and take measures to encourage more human interaction and less interaction with technology. Though these new devices are useful and helpful, they are essentially making humans lazier. In the words of Mr. Wallace, "screens down!!!!!"

    1. Kelly Mary, you bring up some great points. I totally agree with you that I don't think people are fully realizing the impact technology is having on society. We need to encourage kids to get out and play more

  2. This post closely relates to The Washington Post article about iPads in the classroom that I blogged about last week. As we have learned in the classroom, technology can help individuals connect with people around the world, but it can also impede on people’s interaction with others in the same room. This is also true in social settings. Technology greatly decreases face-to-face interaction, causing humans to find less joy in one another and more joy in the animation on a screen. I agree with Kelly that Albert Einstein’s fear has finally come true. With less physical interaction and genuine conversation, people cannot learn from one another. We really are “a generation of idiots” for not taking advantage of our scarce time with the people we care about. Like Kelly said, it is critical for people to “take measures to encourage more human interaction and less interaction with technology.”

  3. Although I think Sera and Kelly both raise valid points, I do not believe technology has created a generation of idiots. If anything, technology allows us to expand our knowledge immensely. If a person has access to the internet the facts and stories they can learn is innumerable. I think Einstein was wrong to say he “feared” technology. It is not technology that has made us all idiots, but I believe it is instead humans that have made themselves idiots. We have human choice and freedom with how we use the technology that has been presented to us. It is incredible that we are so advanced in our technology and that is because of brilliant people, not idiots.

  4. While everyone has good points, I do agree with Lindsey more so than the others. Technology can easily waver between good and bad, depending on its use. If it is used well, it can open an immeasurable expanse of knowledge and provide connection to the rest of the world. While its use can be a distraction from current life, I don’t think it’s such a distraction that it dumbs people down. The use of technology varies from person to person, and there many people know how to balance it with the rest of life. I also think that the reason that people think technology is dooming society is because they see it in the hands of teenagers. People probably gain a better balance between life and technology as they mature, and since teens are not fully matured and can often be easily distracted, technology often takes precedence for them. People are still the same as they always were. I don’t think of today’s technology as the peak for human intelligence, I think of it as progression toward the unforeseeable future.

  5. I believe technology is a great part of our generation. Our generation is filled with such gifted people whom are so great with technology. It has become a crucial part of everyday life. It is helpful for many reasons, yet it can be quite distracting and desensitizing. Social media and texting is used much more than face-to-face confrontation and I think that is one of the only downsides. The next generation is destined to be robots and not even know how to talk. It iss ad that children no a days cannot hold a conversation because they are so used to staring at a screen all day. I can't talk because I am always on my phone, but I have a good balance of texting and conversing with others in my life. Technology is a great thing and we are so blessed and lucky to have the opportunities that we do as citizens of the UNited States.

    1. I agree completely with Kenzie. Yes, even though I am on my phone more than not, I agree that technology has more ups then it does downs. I think where technology or social media is seen is as an issue is when there are ignorant people, which is all we see because there's a lot of controversy that comes with it as well as mocking. The social media rarely ever focuses on the people who actually have looked over the information related to these topics, rather, on the people who look for attention. So, if this issue is fixed, then I think technology and social media are good to have rather then not.

  6. I do not agree with some of the people above. I believe that technology was a great addition to our generation. I believe that technology has given us the ability to expand the horizons beyond the "old-fashioned" generation. Social media can be very helpful but it can also be very dangerous. In my life, I have found that it is much easier to talk to someone over social media or through text rather than face-to-face. Yes, this is inhibiting kids and adults in our generation from developing their social skills, but I also think that it is helping us develop our technology skills.

  8. I agree that technology has more benefits than not. Technology is used in almost everything we do. From 3-D printing braces for children who have weak muscles to studying galaxies billions of light years away. The Internet helps us know exactly what is happening when it's happening. Technology is curing diseases and connecting us with relatives across the globe. Technology is bringing us to places safely and allowing us to share images and videos with each other. No matter what you do, technology will be there to help you. We Benefit From Technology have given human beings the ability to streamline your life. Technology has made it possible to be in touch with people across the world. Technology has boosted efficiency from factories to homes.Technology has provided people with an abundance of knowledge. I believe society has greatly benefited from technology.

  10. Technology is extremely relevant to society today especially with the developments within the last 50 or so years. It’s purpose is to be used for expanding our knowledge and making life easier for the consumer but in this case it is not. Einstein was correct, technology has created generations of idiots, life has been dumbed down for so it is easier. Those people in the pictures are not using their devices to make conversation or to enjoy the time they have together, it is being used to avoid. However, a picture speaks a thousand words and who says that that split second you are taking a picture with your friends at the sports game someone takes of picture of you doing that. Also this can be hypocritical because those pictures could have been taken with a cellphone and the person taking them would be using technology to do something at the sporting event as the people in the selfie, the focus of the picture isn't the event the only difference is the people in it.

  11. I have mixed opinions on this post. There are two very arguable sides to the statement that technology is producing a "generation of idiots." I do not believe the word idiot is accurate, i would use maybe "anti-social." People now find it easier to talk to other people via social media and messaging rather than face-to-face, which takes away from human interaction. On the other hand, without technology we wouldn't be able to do our school work the same, read about the news, etc. Yes, technology can turn us into unsociable, but it also can help us gain knowledge.

  12. Every one has valid points to this argument. In the post, one statement said that technology is producing a "generation of idiots." I have mixed feelings about what this post is saying about our generation. I agree and disagree with this statement. Social media is used for both good and bad things. The use of technology varies from person to person. Nowadays, people find it easier to talk to people via social media rather than face-to-face interaction, which takes away from human contact and socialization. However, without technology we wouldn't be able to finish tasks online like school work, job work, see the news, etc. Not too long ago a man put a video of him drinking and driving on Facebook. Because of that, the police were able to find him and arrest him. Obviously, things like that makes social media look bad. Whereas things like sharing posts for awareness about illnesses is a good thing for social media. I agree and disagree with the "generation of idiots: comment. Some people make social media seem good, and others make it bad. It all depends on an individual person.

  13. This Facebook post should be a huge wakeup call to everyone. Nowadays, kids would rather play video games than playing outside and socializing with other kids. This is harmful to a child's physical and mental devolopment. Although it is very sad that Albert Einstein's prediction came true, technology has done a lot of good in our world. In the medical field, technology has been used to save peoples' lives. It has also been used to shorten surgery time. I think it is up to us to change the way we use technology.

  14. I agree with Ava when she said that technology is creating a generation of antisocial people. Although technology has many advantages, it has moved forward to a point that is unnecessary. Why do we need hover boards or phones that can access the Internet? These technological advances, though seemingly improving our society, end up inhibiting social interaction. I know so many people who are physically incapable of making a phone call, and this is because of how easy it is to just shoot someone an email or text. Having a phone so capable of doing everything you need is ruining the chance of finding adventure in this world. When I was growing up, I spent every day running around outside and playing in the snow and leaves. My street was full of kids and we all knew each other and would go over to everyone's house and just play together. Now, there are the same amount of young kids, yet no one knows each other, and no one plays outside. I babysit for many of the children on my street, and often I have to force going outside because all they want to do is play in their iPad. Although technological advances help with medical field and help better our society in the world, in individual life I feel that it is greatly inhibiting our ability to socially interact with new people, and meeting new people has become increasingly difficult.

  15. I do believe Albert Einstein’s prediction came true, unfortunately. My generation is only the beginning to this addiction to technology. Instead of reading books, people are watching streaming videos on their phones, iPads, or tablets. While a little TV won’t hurt anyone, an excessive amount of this activity can be just the beginning numerous problems. People are missing out on their daily lives to look at a meaningless tweet on their phone. Instead of enjoying a moment in life, such as a birthday or soaking in a sunset, people will take videos and pictures and will only see these experiences through their phones. My hope for the future is for people to put down their devices and truly experience life. I am not sure if saying we are now “idiots” because our excessive use of technology is a fair assessment. As students, technology has become a key role in learning. We can now research and learn about new information within seconds. We can read a multitude of novels in one device. With technology, the possibilities are endless, but abusing technology possibilities are hindered.

  16. I can see both sides that were presented about this argument. I think that technology has opened up an inexplicable amount of doors, especially for the teen generation. We are able to keep up with current events (such as the Presidential election). All of the presidential candidates have a Twitter account, and is merely for the purpose of gaining followers and getting people more involved in their campaigns. A personal benefit to technology is that I am able to keep in contact with m family that lives in Texas and California (who I only see once or twice a year). The fact that I am able to FaceTime my young cousins (who seem to have grown every time I see them) allows me to feel like I am still with them, even though it is just a digital picture. On the contrary, as teenagers, it is very easy to get caught up with the infatuation of social media. The amount of likes and followers and retweets that people get tend to distort the actually meaning of friends and compliments. It is so easy to get distracted watching Netflix or looking at people's profiles, because it is all at our fingertips.

  17. I see many varying opinions in this article. I do think that Albert Einstein's predication came true. Our generation is just the beginning of the addiction to technology. This addiction can be good and bad depending on the situation. The use of laptops or "screens" in a classroom setting can be seen as distracting by some teachers (Mr. Wallace). These "screens" however can be beneficial to learning in some circumstances. Technology has its up and down-sides and when used appropriately, technology can be a necessary edition to our society.

  18. Technology has definatly changed the face of our generation. We are the generation of technolgy. It has changed the world as we know it. I think techology can be an amazing thing. It allows us to communicate around the world with the click of a finger. We have endless amounts of knowledge all in one place. I do think it is being abused. It is sickening seenign children at dinner with their faces buried in ipads and iphones, they are missing out on valuable conversations that they can’t experience online. Like Sera said, With less physical interaction and genuine conversation, people cannot learn from one another. If we aren’t careful and set resticitons we can easily become an generation full of idiots.

  19. There have been a lot of contradictory posts about whether or not technology is creating a "generation of idiots" or not. Technology can be an amazing thing, if used properly. A majority of people have cell phones and are able to find anything at the tough of their fingertips, but because we now have such easy access to information, we are not learning anything. I myself believe that some things I am forced to learn at school are pointless because I will never need to remember it, because I will always have a cell phone or computer in reach to look it up if I need to know it. There should be some restrictions to technology, especially for younger children. Children need to interact with others to develop communication skills; messaging on cell phones or tablets does not count. Like Sera said, physical interaction and genuine conversations are necessary if people are to learn from one another. Also, physical activity is vital to one's health; but why would a child chose to do something tiring if they have a video game in arms length that they could play for hours without breaking a sweat. But spending time outside, traveling, playing sports, conversing with others teaches you lessons and gives you valuable life experiences that video games can't.
However, we cannot completely remove technology from our generation. Our society runs on technology and it changes/advances so often that if someone does not learn how to use it at a younger age, they will fall behind later in life. Therefore I think that technology is okay as long as it is used by children in moderation. I believe technology is creating a generation of idiots and if restrictions are not placed, then our generation will only fall even further behind.

  21. I believe that technology does not hinder the growth of society's social structure or intellect. Instead, technology promotes the development of a new level of interaction and exposes millions of people to new resources that allow for the spread of knowledge. For example, technology links people in ways that Einstein could not have foreseen. Every day, social media connects people from all over the world and reunites friends that had lost touch over decades. Also, most forms of technology allow individuals to communicate via instant message. This allows people to quickly make plans and to be reached at almost any time. As for its more intellectual side, technology is used in a variety of ways for personal use, in schools, and in nearly every government facility. Technology allows us to research ideas and learn things in half the time it would have taken in a library in Einstein's time. It also gives us access to super computers that can calculate difficult equations in next to no time and monitor the settings on incredibly complex machines such as space shuttles and large hadron colliders. Without the availability of technology, society would be vastly different, and millions of people would not be able to learn or stay in touch with the ease that we do today.

  22. I believe technology is an amazing part of this generation. This generation is filled with very wise people who get across with the help of technology. It has become a crucial part of everyday life. It is helpful for many reasons, like for emergencies or just a way of communication. Social media and texting is used much more than face-to-face confrontation and I think that is one of the only downsides. Also, social media helps promote many businesses and helps them thrive. If anything technology has improved our generation. The Internet helps us know exactly what is happening when it's happening. It is a safer way to know what’s going on whether it was an amber alert warning us about a storm or an escaped prisoner, we know when it happens.

  23. The overuse of technology is most definitely going to have an everlasting impact on citizens today. Instead of playing outside, kids depend on the use of technology (iPhones, iPads, etc) to create their fun- what happened to creating your own fun? Most children don't learn to color in a coloring book, they learn how to color on an iPad app (disappointing). I do see some positives in social media however. For example, it has been beneficial in helping with today's elections in publicizing to people (especially young votes like myself) events involving the top candidates. It is a slippery slope because we don't want people to depend on social media as a life line, but we do have to accept its everlasting impact on us.
