  1. In society today, there is all kinds of violence, and the author is one of the people with the solution of no guns. No guns or restricting laws to make it practically impossible would be one of the worst things for the country. The so-called “bad guys” in this article such as the bikers, will always have their guns. If they cant buy them legally, there are lots of ways to get guns illegally. The population at large can benefit from guns. Guns shouldn’t be seen as the instigator for violence, but rather our society as a whole. Restricting guns would do nothing but allow the violent crimes occur more often, because the assailants wont have any fears of being shot.

  2. I think it is ridiculous that certain people want to set heavy restrictions or completely ban gun use. It would do nothing but create more problems. I agree awful situations such as the shooting at Sandy Hook school has occurred in history, but outlawing guns will make things like this go away. Just like during the Prohibition when the government tried to illegalize alcohol, it will only create a black market. If the right to own a gun is taken away from people it will allow for an illegal market to open up between criminals who will find ways to get their hands on a gun. Restricting guns will make it so good citizens cannot protect themselves against criminals and will just cause bigger issues.

  3. The author of this article believes the way to prevent violence and gun culture is to ban or place restrictions on gun laws. First, simply banning guns would just make sure that “bad guys” acquire guns because they can obtain them from the black market whereas other people would probably not buy from the black market. The same will happen if regulations are passed to decrease gun use. Secondly, the Constitution states that people of the United States have the right to bear arms. Regulations and banning guns clearly breach the Constitution. The shootings in America are tragic and horrible, but banning guns will not necessarily prevent these atrocities. Gun regulations will just increase violence in cities.

  4. I am a strong believer in "guns don't kill people. People kill people". Unfortunately in todays society people believe otherwise. Many believe by restricting firearms is a way to prevent violence but there are thousands of other weapons out there and there are many other ways to get a gun. Also as the Second Amendment protects people to bear arms in the Constitution. A large part of America is having a right to own a gun but I think many people take advantage of that and ignore being responsible. Taking away someones right to bear arms and to protect themselves obviously will cause more problems. I think the author of this blog is making it seem like anyone who has a gun is a bad or violent person which is not true. By banning guns you will only be able to take away the people who legally have them but you will never find the people who have guns illegally. The people with an illegal weapon are the ones who are causing violence.

  5. I believe in the support of guns unlike the author in the article. Yes guns can be violent but used correctly they can protect our officers on the line of duty. When the government starts to control too much of our freedom it will soon result in rebellion and could lead to a large problem with the black market and illegal trading with different countries. I think the author of this article is being very close minded and biased towards people who own a gun that they will automatically result in violent behavior, which normally isn't true. Some people just need it for self protection rather than using to act out in a violent matter.

  6. I agree with this article that the United States should have stricter laws on gun control. People suggest arming schools and having teachers be equipped to use guns. The idea that guns should be placed in schools for protection terrifies me. Knowing guns are present in my school does would not make me feel protected. If guns are not readily available, it will be harder for people to get ahold of them. Plenty of other countries have much stricter gun control laws than the U.S. and have a much better crime rate. Yes, a black market might be present if the laws are more restricting, however, having less guns readily available will protect the citizens of the U.S. far more than everyday citizens carrying around a gun or having a gun available in schools or households.

  7. Along with Christina Serra, I too believe in the support of guns unlike the author of this article. If we have regulations along with the support of guns then the outcomes could only be positive. In the summer I went to Chattanooga, Tennessee with my softball team for our National tournament. We went approximately two weeks after the shooting at the National Guard. Since it is not legal for soldiers to stand outside of the National Guard bases with guns, civilians around the area are taking their place. This experience really opened my mind and made me realize that the support of guns would be a positive addition to the law.

  8. I agree with Kate in the support of heavier gun restrictions. There is so much violence in the world and something must be done to assuage whatever possible. I do not think that guns should be banned, that would be too harsh, but I do believe that there should be a process to acquiring a gun and certain restrictions on who can and who cannot. Yes I know there would most likely still be a black market for guns, but those who would get their guns from the black market will most likely be the ones who will be violent. Do we really want to just give them a gun and almost make it seem like we commend that? With all the shooting at different schools, and movie theaters, and even just typical gang violence, something must be done to limit them. It is not the guns fault for being used in these ways, yes it is the peoples fault, but if the only way to restrict these people from acquiring the guns is to set up regulations, then by all means do it. I don't believe that the guns themselves are what is causing the violence as the man in this article does, but I do believe that restrictions on gun control may successfully limit the people who use guns for violent acts.
