As tough as this video is to watch there are still people who disagree with same sex marriage. After the recent law passing in July that gay marriage is legal in all fifty states there definitely are still people who haven't accepted it. Now that it is legal I believe people should put aside their own personal beliefs and let individuals love who they want and be able to marry who they want. For Kim Davis to use God as an excuse as to not issue them a marriage license in completely wrong, and considering the fact that she was willing to have the police called on her rather than granting the couple a marriage license is hard to fathom. This still shows that people still do not agree with same sex marriage and it will take a lot of work, dedicated, and time for it to be accepted.
This video makes it apparent that many people today are still struggling with accepting the fact the gay marriage is legal. After the law was passed it July, it official became legal from same-sex couples to receive a marriage license. Though it is alright to have personal opinions on the subject, it is not alright to publicly humiliate and deny gay people their legal right to a marriage. If Kim Davis has such an issue with gay marriage, she should not be working in a place that gives out marriage licenses. Under the law, it is her duty and obligation to allow gay people the right to this marriage license. It is completely uncalled for and inappropriate for her to voice her opinions in an unprofessional fashion like this.
I agree that Kim Davis should not have refused to give the marriage license to that couple. I realize that there are many who disagree with gay marriage, and that if they don’t want to participate in it they should not be forced to, as it is their right. Even so, this matter is different because it is pertaining to Davis’ job. If she believes so strongly that same sex couples should not be married, then she shouldn’t have a job that includes her having to give out marriage licenses. Granted, the couple was being very antagonistic to her, but it is not right for her to refuse to do her job. It was only a matter of time until something like this happened to her, especially because gay marriage is such a highly disputed topic right now.
Some people cant grasp the fact that same sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states in the country. After the law passed this past July, many people have accepted the fact that same sex couples will now be publicly showing their beliefs. Other people neglect to accept the fact that the LGBT community is just as equal to any other community in the United States. For Kim Davis to use God to not issue them a marriage license is wrong. God loves all of his children, even if they don’t practice the same beliefs as he did and still does.
The biggest problem in this video that I saw was the lack of respect. Whether you believe in gay marriage or you don't especially as adults you need to treat each other with respect. If the LGBT community wants to make any progress with gaining the respect of people who don't believe your not going to get it by confronting or harassing them. It's hypocritical for the LGBT community to force their beliefs on many religious people who use to force their religious beliefs on them. As for Kim Davis whose job is to give marriage licenses to any legal couple which now includes homosexuals needs to find a new job. It is required that she gives them a license even if she disagrees. There is no reason to use God as an excuse. People don't believe in God to use him as an excuse. She is using her job to take advantage of people by restricting them of their basic human rights. She denies that the LGBT community deserves to be treated like human beings and to be treated equally.
This video clearly acknowledges the fact that not everyone, even those under authority, agree with the passing of the Same Sex marriage laws. In my opinion is should be nationally recognized and accepted, if not personally, then legally. There are hundreds of laws in place to keep business open to all races, religions, and all forms of diversity. It is what our country is built on. The woman in this video clearly does not want to accept that the LGBT community is also part of the human race and are valuable members of our country and society. On the other hand, I believe that it is a more difficult topic because she is coming from a point of a religious standpoint. Although I am also Catholic but do not agree, this woman is simply following what she believes her teachings are telling her. So, in this case, what right is jeopardized- her practice of religious freedom, or the LGBT communities right to get married under this woman authority?
I completely agree with Lucy that the woman in this video is wrong. Same Sex marriage laws should definitely be in place in our country. I also strongly agree with her argument that since there are so many laws that don't allow discrimination of minorities, then there should be the same treatment for the LGBT community. It is hard to fight this topic on a religious standpoint because of the strong views of the Bible. I however think that since God permits love and wants all people to love thy neighbor that no discrimination should be put on the people who want to have a same sex marriage. The woman is in a tricky place because of her strong religious views which is what makes this video so interesting. In this case religious views were more important than upholding the law while in other cases the outcome may not be the same.
There are many people out there who disagree with same sex marriage. When the law was passed, it was legal for same sex couples to receive a marriage license. It’s ok to have our own options about things like gay marriage but people who believe that should not work in places where they cannot do their jobs. Kim Davis shouldn’t be working in a place that requires her sign marriage license if she doesn’t sign all of them. Although she does have freedom of religion, she still has to do her job. It will just take time and a lot of work for people to be able to accept same sex marriage.
There are a lot of people who cannot grasp the fact that same sex marriage is now legal. Many people, including Kim Davis, are struggling to accept it especially within their jobs and communities. Even though Kim Davis was wrong in not giving a marriage license to the gay couple that approached her, the couple was wrong as well. They traveled a long way to seek out Kim Davis to disrupt her job. They could’ve gone somewhere locally but intentionally wanted to make a scene, which was very wrong. Kim Davis is entitled to her own opinion and shouldn’t have been punished for practicing her beliefs. A lot of people will still not be accepting of same sex marriage and all you can really do is pray for them.
There are new laws being passed that may go against our religious beliefs. People may choose to follow them if they wish but I don’t think they should be required to. I don’t think people should be pushed to do something they are uncomfortable with just because they are required to a work. If she feels that she shouldn’t have to continually have to do this then she should find a job where she would feel comfortable. I respect the lady greatly for what she said and did when the group of people came up to her. She stood up for what she believed in and what she thought was right. She did not care what they had to say to her and how much they threatened her.
I believe that the women in the video is wrong, as many people have stated. In my opinion, same sex marriage laws should be in place in our society. Because of the Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is now legal. I respect that the women has very strong religious views, even though they are not the same as mine. However, I believe she should have been obligated to give the couple a marriage license. Being a marriage license administer, she had to know that there would come a day when same sex marriage would be legal. If she is that adamant about not giving that couple a marriage license, then she needs to find a different job that either reflects the views of her religion, or one that will not bring about any controversy in that way. Some people may argue that the couple could've gone somewhere else for their marriage license. That is true, however, I think it serves an important point. It shows that even when laws are passed, people still might not follow them. Since same sex marriage is legal, she cannot deny them a license, yet she still did. I believe that the couple's rights of same sex marriage should come before her religious views. It sickens me that even after all this progress in the LGBT community, that people can still continue to do things like this and discriminate against same sex couples.
Same-sex marriage is now legal. If one doesn't believe in that, then that is fine; but it is still the law. I get that some peoples strong religious views are important and sacred to them, but at the same time they are obligated by the supreme court to do as told. The woman could have easily told them to go to a different administer so they could get their marriage license, instead she completely denied them the right-which goes against equal rights. The woman in the video obviously has a strong opinion about same-sex marriage, and that is okay, but when it becomes a big controversey like this, stand down and let them be happy.
Some people do not agree with the supreme court ruling of legalizing same sex marriage in all 50 states. Like it or not this now legal and people should accept it instead of fighting it. The clerk waived her rights to use freedom of religion as a reason not to issue a marriage license when she because a public servant, therefore she is not allowed the right to do what she did. Although at the same time same sex marriage does go against many religions and people should not be forced to go against their religion this was in the case of a public servant and perhaps that needs a second look.
