  1. I am sick of hearing false promises from the Obama administration. They always say that they will do what’s moral, but how is ignoring mass atrocities and genocide moral. Although I am so blessed and happy to live in such an amazing, rich, and recourse filled country, this situation really angers me. How does the Obama Administration expect European countries to handle all of the refugees flooding into their countries? We have so much room in the US to take some of the people in. European countries have taken tens of thousands of refugees in just this passed year, and we have only taken in 1,500. This is absurd.

    1. I agree with Mary on all of the points that she made. The Obama Administration has been quite hypocritical involving many of the issues that concern our own, and other nations. The administration claims that they always have people's best interests at heart, but they ignore so many situations in which countries and peoples need America's help. Though our country needs to deal with it's own issues, it also has a moral responsibility to help other nations when they can. The United States has the power and resources to help the European countries but refuses to. It angers me that other countries have taken in thousands of refugees that need a place to start and build a new life, but America has simply turned their back. All I can say is that we need someone new in office to help deal with these foreign issues in a more moral and compassionate way. We have to get rid of these dipsticks.

  2. Obama is not a man of his word. He says he has the peoples best interest, yet he does not. I say this because he is ignoring many issues going on in this world. He isn't using his power as the United states president for the greater good he is using it for his own good. The Obama administration is ignoring things such as genocide and the many of refugees moving in European countries. Its beginning to be way too much for these countries to handle and I think the Obama administration needs to help deal with this situation as well. The united states needs to take more refugees so that the European countries do not have to deal with this on their own. The U.S needs to act like the strong country that it says to be.

  3. The Obama administration did not want any involvement in the war in Syria and because of this Syria is now mostly controlled by Isis. Syrian refugees are fleeing to Europe expecting that they will be taken care of. Unfortunately there is not enough room or money to take care of the refugees. Because nothing was done in Syria to at least protect the syrians they have left Syria to countries where there is no room and now are also beginning to come to America. Now America has to provide for them but also is at risk for terrorists entering the U.S. The Obama administration cannot s turn the other cheek and think that if they don't get involved with Syria, Syria wont get involved with them. There wrong. Now Syria has become stronger, there are more refugees, and because there is no control in Syria it allows terrorists like Isis and Assad become stronger which is a larger threat to America.

  4. I feel as if the Obama administration goes back on their word a lot. They said they didn't want to interfere with Syrian affairs but regarding other circumstances with Iran and Afghanistan we have gotten ourselves involved in their situations. I think it is completely immoral to turn people away who just genuinely need our help. The situation is out of their control and as the United States of America it is our duty to be the good guys be the nation who cares. With all these refugees flooding into Europe that can lead to over population in areas and cause effects on the economy. There is no need for Europe to suffer from these effects when the United States has no reasonable reason as to why they cannot help out.

  5. Besides this article, I am not that well educated on previous action taken in order to help the situation in Syria. My question is whether the Obama administration has gone back on its word or has just failed to act upon it. I understand the articles point on why they are hesitating on making a move towards war or actions that might insight one, however it just seems as if they have made no effort towards their simple moral responsibility. We have only allowed roughly 1500 refugees when we have plenty of room to help those who are persecuted. Throughout the last decade, there has been an on going debate about illegal immigrants and the "harm" that they may do to our country but at what point do we put our needs below others and when will we reach that point and realize it is out duty to help them?

    1. I also know very little about the situation in Syria prior to this article. While I am sure there are many reasons not to move towards war or violence, Obama can't ignore the refugees that need aid. It is every person's moral responsibility to do what they can for those who are suffering. In this circumstance, Europe has been taking in thousands of persecuted and as a strong and wealthy country we should be doing our part. We are a country with abundant resources. For this reason we should be doing what we can to lessen the burden on Europe and assist the Syrian refugees.

  6. Obama and his administration always make false promises and go back on their word. Obama has gotten the U.S. involved in many immoral situations. Europe does not have the natural resources or money to take care of the Syrian refugees so there are Syrian citizens trying to come into America but are being turned away which is immoral and against some teachings that Obama preaches. Syria is being taken over by Isis which means they are strong and more powerful than they were before; therefore it is not safe for Syrians to stay there. Yet Obama won't let refugees come over here meanwhile Europe is full and unable to take care of them.

  7. I think the United States not helping the countries in need, such as Syria and Iran, is absurd. The moral obligation of the U.S. is to help other countries in need, not ignoring them. It simply does not make sense. The United States must help those in need. The U.S. has the power and resources to help, but refuses. Europe has taken in countless amounts of refugees, while the U.S. has taken in very minimal. As a world power, the U.S. must take charge and act upon the issues happening in the Middle East and in Europe. The Obama Administration needs to realize what the U.S.’s true moral obligation is.

    1. I agree with Kate. Not only has the Obama administration not lived up to its word, but it has also denied suffering individuals from around the world the opportunity to improve their lives. When writing the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson clearly stated that out unalienable rights include "preservation of life, and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". I am sure that he did not restrict this statement to American citizens, instead, this declaration is meant to apply to all of humanity. Since this is stated in our Declaration of Independence, I believe that we have the obligation to ensure that we do our best to protect these rights for as much of humanity as possible. However, with our administration's empty promises, we're not doing a very good job of that.

    2. I agree with Kate. The United States always prided itself on being a sanctuary for the persecuted. It was founded on the belief that anyone can come to this country for freedom. It is the duty of a president to reflect and uphold that belief. The people from Syria are being religiously persecuted, just like the very people who settled our land. As a country, especially with our resources, we have a duty to assist struggling countries and all its inhabitants. To quote the Statue of Liberty, “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses, yearning to breath free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest tost to me,I lift my lamp beside the golden door. “ How can we as a country speak such things when we are only displaying extreme hypocrisy.

  8. Obama’s administration has never been good about standing behind their word and doing what they say they are going to do. They said that they didn’t want anything bad to happen to the refugees that were trying to escape, however actions speak louder than words. Because I am not previously knowledgable about the whole situation that is happening in Syria, but I do hear a lot about how Obama makes false promises about all different kinds of things. How does Obama and his administration think this situation will be taken care of if they don’t do anything. The United States has a lot of power and many countries look up to us for help and aid to them in situations like this. Obama and his administration should start standing behind their word and helping in anyway that they can.

  9. I don't think The Obama Administration should be promising things they cannot keep. If they do not plan on saving all of these people, they shouldn't say they will. As Mary states previously, the Europeans cannot hold all the Syrian refugees. It is just way too much to handle. As an american, I know how much we can do to help these refugees. If taking in some of these suffering people means the USA will be a bit more crowded, then so be it. As morals go, nobody should have to die because they lack a safe place to live. Just as you may see a poor homeless person that you'd like to donate something to, you should feel for those suffering in Syria. If we can do something to help, I think that it's important we do so.

  10. President Barack Obama is the original Dipstick Democrat. The Obama Administration has the mentality of individualism - a term we learned about in Catholic Social Teachings. Individualism is the belief that everyone (or every country, in this case) is responsible for themselves, and only themselves. The fact that Obama and his squad are taking a seat and watching this unravel in front of their eyes is beyond me. As mentioned above, there is no physical way that one small continent can house and protect all of the Syrian refugees. Obama obviously doesn't have a problem funding and training the Syrian rebels to fight the government... why can't he protect those that are suffering and homeless, as well? Nice job, Obama.

  11. Prior to this article, I did not know much about the situation in Syria like many other people said. I understand the precautions the Obama Administration has to take before just jumping in and helping other countries in need. I wonder if the Obama Administration is not following through with their plans or they are having trouble executing it. I'm not sure what they are doing, but they need to act upon this situation as soon as possible and help Syria. Obviously that is easier said than done, but it just seems like we often help other people when it is too late and too many people have suffered without sooner prevention. The United States has let about 1500 refugees into our country. If it is a matter of "spacial issue" we should team with other countries to help get these refuges out of their current situations. It is our responsibility to help those in needs, especially with all of the resources we have as a country. We should be doing any and everything to help the situation in Syria. Hopefully an intervention form the United States happens sooner than later.

  12. I also agree strongly with Mary and Kelly. The Obama Administration always claims that they are going to either support, send aid, or support the people and their countries being affected. It saddens me to know that the United States have all the resources and technology to help these countries in need like they had done many times for European countries. They have simply just given up and turned their backs on these Middle Eastern countries that are in great need. Obama always just talks big and says he is trying to help, but sadly he isn’t doing his best. At least, I don’t believe he is trying and doing his best.

  13. In my opinion the United States are not helping the countries that are in need. The Obama administration is always saying that that they will do but then they don’t so it. They say that they will do what is moral but they are not. They are allowing genocide to happen and so much more. Obama is ignoring many of the important issues going on in the United States. Another thing that bothers me is that the U.S. is not taking in many refugees. Many other counties are taking thousands of people in but the U.S is not letting many people in. There is enough room in the U.S to bring in some of the refugees.
