  1. Congress has the power of the purse, so that means that they have the right and ability to make decisions about the budget. Since Congress has republicans as its majority it makes sense that Congress would choose to defund Planned Parenthood. The article mentioned that Pro-Life Democrats agreed with using the funding from Planned Parenthood to help fund the local health center, but criticized connecting defunding Planned Parenthood with the health care law. I guess I never realized that there actually were Pro-Life Democrats, but their point made sense because in order to have the democrat vote the bill should not link Planned Parenthood with the health care law. I agree with Congress’ decision not only because I believe abortion is wrong, but also I believe that the government needs to use its budget wisely and for matters essential to the good of the American people.

  2. This is great news!!! Defunding planned parenthood is a huge step in the direction towards ending abortion all together. To me, the most striking fact presented in this article is the fact that only one democrat in the whole House of Representatives voted in favor of defunding planned parenthood. This shows amazing courage. Also, by defunding planned parenthood, the government has the ability to spend that extra money on better things that would greatly benefit the American people. It is crazy to think that the government has been spending $500 million every year on something so disgusting. They were literally paying for women who wanted to kill their babies. This is why defunding planned parenthood is a huge step in the right direction.

  3. Reading this article really made me very happy! Its great news to hear that the government is defunding planned parenthood. While many tax dollars and government money is spent on abortion, there are many people who believe that abortion is very wrong. II am one to agree with these people. I really do believe this is the first step to help eliminate abortion all together. I cant believe the government was spending so much money on something so many people are against. I also think that while the government funding for planned parenthood ends, the government can use the money on more important things.. like supporting a woman who has just had her baby. It is about time this happened.

  4. This article brings attention to the fact that not all Democrats feel the same way about abortion. Some members of the Democratic Party are pro-life, even though the Democratic party overall is generally considered supportive of pro-choice. This is like what we talked about in AP Government: American political parties are decentralized, not monolithic. Not everyone in a political party shares the exact same beliefs. On a different note, the issue of harvesting body tissues is a big business in many countries. Doctors at these Planned Parenthood locations may pressure vulnerable women into getting abortions so that they can sell the fetal tissues of the unborn baby. These women, who are already likely to be experiencing a lot of trauma, may be pressured into making a decision that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

  5. When I first read this article it made me very happy. It is great news that the government is defunding Planned Parenthood. A lot of tax dollars and government money is spend on abortion every year. Many woman could be pressured into making the wrong choice about their baby. I believe that is wrong to have an abortion. By defunding Planned Parenthood, the government now has more money to spend on things that benefit the people. With that money the government could help the woman who choose to keep their baby. This is a step in the right direction to getting rid of abortion all together.
