  1. The point made in this article that far more attention was given to France than Middle Eastern nations was particularly interesting to me. Today in Catholic Social Teaching, Mary Jaddou emphasized the same idea saying, “It’s sad that bombings like this occur all of the time in the Middle East, but it isn’t until it happens in France that people finally pay attention to it.” I also found the statement that “history of violence has numbed many overseas watchers to the horrors of terror attacks in Lebanon” to be extremely accurate. Like little children become desensitized to violence in videogames or derogatory language on television, Western civilizations have become desensitized to violence in the Middle East. Do people truly consider the lives of Middle Eastern citizens less valuable than the lives of Western citizens? Or do people simply try to ignore the violence in the Middle East because they feel hopeless in finding a solution? I think the answers to these questions depend upon the individual, but at the end of the day, we must remember that all people were created equal and all lives should be valued equally. We must show the same support and love for Middle Eastern victims as we do Western victims.

I think that the U.S. under the present administration has abandoned its traditional role as the nation the civilized world looks to defend human lives in the Middle East.

    2. I agree with Sera in the fact that it is tragic that there was very little coverage of the attacks in Beirut. It is truly sad to think that many do not view tragic bombings such as the Beirut attack worthy enough to report on. The attack occurred a day before the Paris bombing; yet no one heard of it. How does Western civilization explain the insensitivity to all those affected by these attacks? All human life should be held sacred and mourned equally. In our society, the only people who care about the deaths in the Middle East are the people who have family over there. The others who have no one over there do not care about the deaths.

  2. I find it very disappointing that the only thing on the news the day of the bombings were the ones in France. Beirut was bombed the day before and nobody had even heard about it. One of my close friends moved to the US from Lebanon just five short years ago. His whole family besides his parents and siblings still live in Beirut. Unfortunately, my friend lost a cousin in the bombings. He and his family were so very upset that nobody even recognized that Lebanon was suffering just as much as France. Why do we put countries like France before the Middle East? Why do we only pray for others when something bad happens? We are ALL one and we should pray for the well being of other countries every day. We have to support all victims in the same manor. My prayers go out to all of those that have been affected from these terrorist bombings.

  3. I was very disappointed that the media focused primarily on Paris, but I was not surprised. It is horrible to say i have become accustom to the American Media not showing what has been happening with ISIS in the Middle East. The Middle East is not on TripAdvisor's list of “must see” places and their landmarks are not as valued as the Eiffel Tower but the world has a common enemy and that is ISIS at at the very least when they attack the world should show sympathy. The news has a job to inform and they did not clearly inform people that ISIS bombed Beirut not just Paris.
