Many people across America have different opinions about those who are transgender. This has been a more popular topic ever since the icon, Bruce Jenner, decided to undergo a sex change. He now identifies with the name, Caitlyn Jenner and continues to advocate for transgender rights. Obama declared that transgender males who identify as female should be able to shower in the women’s locker room at schools. I believe that it is a personal opinion whether you find this just or inappropriate. Modern society is trying to be more accepting, but it can be hard. I believe that Obama handled this situation correctly. Those who are transgender were not comfortable in their own skin and after undergoing the surgery, deserve to be treated as the gender they identify with. If other girls are uncomfortable with this, they can use the facilities at a different time.
So- one person can inconvenience all the girls??? http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/curtis-houck/2015/11/04/new-york-times-throws-massive-fit-over-houston-voters-rejecting?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=marketing&utm_campaign=b-houston-nytimes
I believe that this students rights were not violated in the first place. The school already made changes for the student to play on girls sports teams and have their own private bathroom, but the student should not be allowed to use the girls restroom or use the locker room. The student is violating other students privacy. I believe that it does not matter what gender you are in sports, politics, or in any other profession because that is a public matter. There is still privacy in any bathroom you go in whether it is at a public school or any other facility and people have the right to feel safe and not violated. The student has no reason to feel singled out because it is the students choice to go through the changes. I feel that the rest of the students have the rights and majority rule. The rest of the students deserve to have their privacy protected and to not feel violated in their locker room.
In this day and age, America's youth is much more rebellious. Many teenagers are supportive of the LGBT community because of the connections through social media. More and more teenagers are undergoing sexual reassigning surgeries to feel better "in their own skin." Recently, one of America's hero, Bruce Jenner, underwent surgery to embrace his self-proclaimed identity of a woman. Because situations like that have been brought to the spotlight, the government is forced to make policy statements regarding LGBT rights. I think that it was good move on Dipstick Obama's part to make a statement regarding the violated rights of this transgender teen. I understand that the school district is trying to respect the other students, but it doesn't make it okay to single out one student to do so.
Transgender discrimination is one of the most controversial topics presently. I believe people's opinions vary so much because it is extremely difficult to relate to the transgender population unless one is in that same situation. For people who do not have the same feelings, it is hard to understand their motives and exactly what kind of struggles they are enduring. Furthermore, it is impossible for people to understand exactly how much the operation affects transgender individuals mentally. The issue of allowing transgender students full access to locker rooms and bathrooms is particularly awkward because it is likely that the student's peers knew him/her prior to their gender change. Therefore, it is extremely uncomfortable to allow that student into the appropriate locker room when him/her was not allowed in there before. Now that the transgender population is growing, it is not a question of whether the nation will deal with it; rather it is the question of how the nation will deal with it. Is it wrong to offer student accommodations that are separate but equal? Is this discrimination as unjust as racial segregation that claimed to be "separate but equal"? I do not think that I can fairly answer this question because I do not understand the mentality of a transgender individual. America prides itself upon being a land of freedom, going as far as allowing individuals to change gender. But, as with all past issues, rights must be limited when they infringe upon the rights of others. Would granting the right of locker room use to transgender students be violating other students' right to privacy? As much as I wish transgender students could be granted full and equal rights, I do think that it would infringe upon the other students' right to privacy.

In today's society, many teenagers are becoming more accepting of the LGBT community and everyone who fits one or all of those categories. I think that is awesome! I think it's awesome that minors (and those over 18) are becoming more accepting of the people in our world today. However, I do think it is uncomfortable and an invasion of privacy to the other students of the school to allow a transgender student to use the girls locker room. This is a very awkward situation seeing as it is only one student, but that one student should not have the right to make all of the others feel uncomfortable in the school locker room... it is not fair and it is an invasion of privacy. The student's sexual orientation doesn't even play a role at this point. It is the fact that there is a male, technically, changing and being around all of the others in the girls locker room. That is too far and should not be allowed.
While the topic of transgender people is becoming increasingly more talked about, many people have very different views. I think Obama’s decision to allow transgender boys to shower with girls is monumental. This all started with celebrity athlete Bruce Jenner transforming into a woman. She brought to light the issues and struggles transgender people face and let it be known that being transgender is okay. After this, the idea of transgender people has been talked about in a negative and positive way. I believe more people are now accepting of transgender people. Having Obama say that it is allowed fro transgender boys to shower with girls is a huge triumph in the LGBT community. I believe this is just the beginning for transgender people and the LGBT community. We all need to learn to accept people for who they are.
Transgender issues have come into the spotlight very recently after US Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner came out to everyone and started to identify himself as a woman. Because of this, the topic of transgender has shed new light on the idea of people changing their gender to what they believe they should be referred to as. I personally think that if someone changes their gender, they deserve to be treated with respect and be referred to as that gender. It isn’t that person’s fault that they were born into the “wrong” body. President Obama handled this situation very well and people should continue to follow in the footsteps of the president.
As many have said before me, the topic of transgenders have become significantly more popular ever since Bruce Jenner has come out. As time passed on after Bruce became Caitlyn, we hear more and more about about these situations everyday. I believe that if one goes through the difficult and emotional process of undergoing surgery to change their sex, they should be able to simply shower or go to the bathroom as the gender they truly believe they are. It would be a very different story if one had not undergone a sex change and requested to be allowed to use the bathroom of their choice. I think Obama handled the situation perfectly, not everyone is going to agree on one thing. Sometimes one has to take things into their own hands and make a difficult decision the the good of the people, and that is exactly what Obama has done.
Many people have different opinions about transgenders. Bruce Jenner, who now identifies as Caitlyn Jenner, has received a lot of attention about his sex change. I believe that if someone goes through this change they should be respected but they should also be respectable. The school made changes so the student could participate on girls sports team and to have their own private bathroom. Using a girls locker room or communal bathroom, however, should not be allowed. This student would be violating other girls. Being a boy or girl does not matter than much in sports, politics, or work, but a bathroom or locker room should be a place where girls feel safe. The student may not identity as a boy, but he was born one, and he chose to make the change that would identify him as a woman. All of the other girls in the locker rooms and bathrooms did not pressure him to make a change. The rest of the students, who have always been girls, deserve privacy. This student decided to change, and he should have to live with not being accepted everywhere. Allowing this one student to use the locker room would make him feel more comfortable but it would make a majority of the other people feel violated. One person should not have the right to inconvenience everyone else.
Obviously not everyone is going to agree in this type of situation. It is now 2016. Times are changing and people need to learn to be more accepting of transgender people. I personally agree with the Obama Administration's ruling. No matter how many "accommodations" the school district makes for this transgender teen, if they are not allowing her to have exactly the same rights as every other girl in the school, then they are discriminating against her. I understand that they are trying to look out for all of their students, but they cannot single out another in doing so. She even propositioned to have curtains inside the girls locker room around her just to make others feel more comfortable. She just wants to be included and fully accepted as a girl. It wasn't her fault that she was born into the wrong body. This isn’t about compromising everybody else's feelings for one girl. It is much bigger than that. It is about the LGBT community as a whole and moving forward with acceptance. The school has to comply with the Obama Administration eventually, and they should have to.
